You can always tell when old Fred has been hitting the Padre Kino a little too hard by the number of typos. lol But, never-the-less, he is usually spot on and always entertaining. Here he updates us on a scourge that has inflicted us for a long time.
Recon Marines first go to the Army’s Jump school. It is not until later (after a specified number of helicopter jumps) that they earn the Marine Corps’ Gold Jump Wings.
Back in the early 90s, I was Ops Chief (S3) at 4th Recon Battalion. As such, I was a part of the selection process for sending Marines to the Army’s Jump school. We had an I&I, female, admin type who decided she wanted to go to jump school. So we sent her. And guess what? Yep, the silly bitch washed out–used up a quota that could have been used by a Recon Marine.
